New images have surfaced capturing the moment of the 5.9 magnitude earthquake that struck Malatya’s Kale district at 10:46. The earthquake caused panic and fear among residents as buildings shook and debris fell.
One particular incident that caught the attention of many was the escape of a cleaning worker on the 10th floor of an apartment building in the Yakinca District of Yesilyurt. The worker, upon hearing the noise of the earthquake, quickly recited “La ilahe illallah” and managed to run to safety. This brave act was captured on camera, showcasing the intensity of the situation.
Following the earthquake, experts like Prof. Dr. Naci Görür and Prof. Dr. Şükrü Ersoy provided insights and warnings to the public. They urged residents in Elazığ and Malatya to remain vigilant and prepared for possible aftershocks.
In light of the earthquake, schools in Malatya were closed for the day, and the Malatya Governorship announced that schools would remain closed the following day as well. This decision was made to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff.
Additionally, a French geologist, Prof. Dr. Julia de Sigoyer, made a chilling statement regarding the Iznik Lake region. She revealed that a 1500-year-old basilica in the lake had been destroyed due to a past earthquake, indicating the presence of an active fault line. The geologist warned that there could be a significant earthquake in the area in the near future, prompting concerns among the local population.
As residents in Malatya and surrounding areas continue to recover from the recent earthquake, authorities and experts are emphasizing the importance of preparedness and safety measures in the face of natural disasters.
