European Commission Vice-President to Visit Uzbekistan

The Vice-President of the European Commission, Margaritis Schinas, is set to embark on a working visit to Uzbekistan on Tuesday. According to the EU delegation in Tashkent, Schinas will be holding meetings with high-ranking officials during his visit, including President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjayev and Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov.

The visit comes ahead of the “Europe-Central Asia” investment forum in Brussels on January 29-30, signaling a growing collaboration between the European Union and the Central Asian region. Schinas expressed his intention to visit all five countries of Central Asia as part of this trip.

It’s worth noting that Schinas last visited Uzbekistan in November 2021, leading a delegation to discuss expanding multilateral cooperation with the head of state. This upcoming visit reaffirms the commitment to strengthening ties between the EU and Uzbekistan.
