Cargo Plane Makes Emergency Landing at Istanbul Airport on Fuselage
A cargo plane belonging to a cargo company had a harrowing experience while making the Paris-Istanbul flight on May 8. The landing gear of the plane failed to open upon arrival at Istanbul Airport, prompting the pilot to contact the Istanbul Air Traffic Controller for assistance.
As the pilot circled around the tower, it was determined that the landing gear was not functioning properly. The decision was made to land the plane on its fuselage, resulting in sparks flying due to friction as the aircraft traveled approximately 371 meters down the runway before coming to a stop at the center point.
Quick action by the Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) teams ensured that the situation was under control within 12 seconds of the landing, minimizing any potential risks.
The incident, which lasted just a few minutes, was captured in a 9-minute documentary shared by Istanbul Airport Operator İGA on their social media account. The documentary showcases the coordination between the ARFF teams and the tower, as well as the swift response to the emergency landing.
Viewers can see the moment the plane touches down on its fuselage, the sparks that fly, and the subsequent efforts to safely remove the aircraft from the runway.
The documentary serves as a reminder of the dedication and professionalism of the airport staff in handling unexpected situations, ensuring the safety of passengers and crew members.
