“Expert warns of paralysis risk” – Health update

Specialist Warns of the Dangers of Stroke on World Stroke Day
As World Stroke Day was recently observed, Dr. Abdurrahman Akbaş, a specialist in the field, warned about the dangers of stroke and emphasized the importance of seeking medical attention immediately if stroke symptoms are noticed.
A stroke, or paralysis, occurs when the blood flow to a part of the brain is reduced or interrupted, leading to brain tissue not receiving enough oxygen and nutrients, causing brain cells to die within minutes. Dr. Akbaş explained that there could be temporary or permanent losses in the functions in the area where the stroke occurs. Therefore, it is necessary to reach the emergency room as soon as possible when symptoms are noticed. Once a stroke is diagnosed, the treatment process should begin immediately.
Dr. Akbaş explained that vascular treatment could be applied in strokes due to vascular occlusion, and in strokes due to bleeding, surgery may sometimes be required by a neurosurgeon. After the emergency service, patients are hospitalized in the intensive care, neurology, or neurosurgery clinics based on the cause and severity of the stroke. During this process, medical or interventional treatments are applied, the cause of the stroke is determined, and necessary drug treatments are started to prevent recurrence.
After the treatment process, inpatient or outpatient physical therapy and rehabilitation applications are started according to the needs of the patient. Dr. Akbaş emphasized that physical therapy and rehabilitation applications are an essential part of the treatment of stroke and can be defined as neuro-rehabilitation applications.
In conclusion, Dr. Akbaş reminded everyone to pay attention to their health and to seek medical help immediately if stroke symptoms are noticed. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of taking precautions to prevent stroke, such as regular exercise and consuming a healthy diet.
