Civil Unrest Sweeps Across France: Calls for Urgent Action from Far-Right Politicians
The ongoing civil unrest in France has caught the attention of far-right politicians who are demanding immediate action from President Emmanuel Macron. Marine Le Pen, one of the prominent figures in the far-right movement, has emphasized the seriousness of the disorder and called for an urgent meeting between Macron and representatives from various political parties in the National Assembly.
Le Pen urged for an end to the protests as soon as possible, stating that it could only be achieved if parents withdraw their children from the squares. She further suggested that a partial curfew could potentially help calm the situation, and in more extreme cases, a state of emergency may need to be declared.
Adding to the concerns, Marion Marechal, nephew of Marine Le Pen and a staff member of the anti-immigrant Eric Zemmour, took to Twitter to express his worries about the chaos gripping the entire country. He claimed that all cities were engulfed in flames, with a prevailing sense of worry and chaos among the French population.
Marechal further alleged that the police had been instructed not to intervene in certain sensitive suburbs, leading to the deterioration of the situation. He accused Macron’s government of compromising the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary, arguing that France was under siege from foreign forces.
In a statement that raised eyebrows, Marechal boldly stated, “Although it is hard to say, we are currently in a state of civil war. One way to stop this is not to sit and wait, but to stand in front of it.” He highlighted the concerns of security forces, claiming that they lacked sufficient ammunition to effectively intervene. Marechal called for the declaration of a state of emergency and granting security forces the authority to suppress the ongoing events.
Eric Zemmour, another far-right politician, echoed similar sentiments about the escalating violence in the country. He criticized the “submissive” power for its role in allowing the events to reach this level and stated, “Only hard resistance can restore order and peace. I demand that a state of emergency be declared tonight.”
The root cause of the unrest can be traced back to an incident on June 27th when the police opened fire on a car in Nanterre, resulting in the death of a 17-year-old driver who failed to comply with a “stop” warning. This tragic event sparked outrage, leading to protests across multiple cities, with clashes between protesters and the police.
