Fatalities from Heavy Rains in Pakistan Rise to 55
At least 55 people have lost their lives in Pakistan due to heavy rains and lightning strikes in the last 3 days, according to disaster agency officials. The affected provinces include Punjab, Baluchistan, and Khyber Pantunkhwa.
Most of the victims were farmers who were struck by lightning while harvesting wheat. The heavy rains have caused significant damage, with many houses destroyed and infrastructure severely impacted.
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has directed authorities to provide emergency aid to the affected areas. This is not the first time Pakistan has faced such devastating floods—back in 2022, approximately 2,000 people lost their lives and the country suffered around 30 billion dollars in damages due to similar natural disasters.
As the death toll continues to rise, it is crucial for authorities to take swift action in providing assistance to those affected by the heavy rains and ensuring that proper measures are in place to prevent such tragedies in the future.
