Father accused of murdering 4 children finally confesses after 20 years

Australian Woman Pardoned after 20 Years in Prison for Wrongful Conviction of Murdering Her Four Children
Kathleen Folbigg, an Australian woman, has been released from prison after being wrongfully convicted of murdering her four children. Folbigg’s four children died before the age of two: Caleb died at 19 days old in 1989, Patrick at 8 months old in 1991, Sarah at 10 months old in 1993, and Laura at 18 months old in 1999.
Initially, the deaths appeared to be tragic and unrelated events. Medical examinations revealed that two children died from sudden infant death syndrome and the third child died from suffocation. Laura’s cause of death was recorded as “undetermined.” The focus of the investigation fell heavily on Kathleen Folbigg, who has consistently denied any involvement in her children’s deaths.
Despite a lack of evidence, Folbigg was convicted of strangling her children and was sentenced to 25 years in prison based on circumstantial evidence. However, new scientific evidence has emerged that Folbigg was innocent. According to medical experts, Folbigg and her daughters possess a rare genetic variation, and her son may have died from an underlying neurogenetic disorder.
Upon re-examination of the case, the judge found that there was a reasonable possibility that three of the four children died of natural causes, and that the prosecution’s claim that Folbigg killed the fourth was based on “evidence of coincidence and disposition” that is no longer valid.
Following these developments, Kathleen Folbigg was pardoned and released from prison, 20 years after she was wrongfully convicted of murdering her children. Folbigg’s case has been called one of Australia’s most severe errors of justice.
