Ferencváros Advances in Europa League after Champions League Elimination

Ferencváros Draws with Midtjylland, Knocked Out of Champions League Qualifier

In Tuesday’s second leg match, Ferencváros (FTC) played to a 1-1 draw with Midtjylland, resulting in the Danish team advancing with a 3-1 aggregate score from the third round of the Champions League qualifier.

The Green-and-Whites managed to narrow their away deficit with a goal from Ibrahim Cissé, but Midtjylland quickly equalized in the second half through Oliver Sörensen. From that point on, Ferencváros had little chance of overturning the tie. This match marked the eighth time in history that Ferencváros failed to secure a victory against their Danish opponents.

As the losers of the match, FTC will now progress to the UEFA Europa League (UEL) playoff round, where they will face the winner of the Banja Luka-Klasvík match.

Head coach Pascal Jansen commended Ferencváros for their performance against Midtjylland despite the elimination. Jansen acknowledged the team’s strong play, particularly in the first half, but noted that the Champions League can be unforgiving, with even the smallest mistakes proving costly. He singled out goalkeeper Dénes Dibusz for his crucial saves and highlighted a key moment when the Danish goalkeeper thwarted a potential goal from Rommens.

Jansen attributed the loss to missed opportunities, as Ferencváros created chances but failed to convert them. He did not attribute this to the absence of Barnabás Varga, who was sidelined due to injury, instead focusing on looking ahead to the future and awaiting Varga’s recovery.
