Fergana Authorities Detain Individuals for Large-Scale Gas Theft
Authorities in Fergana have made a significant breakthrough in the fight against natural gas theft, as several individuals have been detained for allegedly stealing gas worth 5.5 billion Uzbekistani som (UZS). The accused are now facing criminal charges that could result in prison sentences ranging from 8 to 15 years.
The General Prosecutor’s Office revealed that the illegal operation was masterminded by a citizen known as T.M., who led a group that caused substantial financial harm to the state by tapping into the natural gas supply unlawfully. The suspects set up an underground lime production facility in Fergana and connected homemade gas burners to a medium-pressure underground gas pipeline without authorization. This resulted in the theft of over 2.1 million cubic meters of natural gas, valued at 5.6 billion UZS.
An investigation into the matter is currently underway, and criminal charges have been brought against T.M., K.M., and other individuals involved under Article 169, section 4, point “a” of the Criminal Code, which deals with theft on a significant scale. All suspects have been apprehended and are in custody as the legal process unfolds.
This case serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to combat illegal gas usage and safeguard public resources from unauthorized exploitation. The authorities in Fergana are determined to crack down on such criminal activities and ensure that those responsible face justice for their actions.
