Musa Bozkurt, the Aksaray Branch Manager of the 8th Regional Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks, has emphasized the continuous efforts made to protect flamingos in Salt Lake and the wetlands in the region. Working tirelessly day and night, throughout all seasons, Bozkurt and his team work around the clock to safeguard the well-being of these migratory birds, which are of great significance to the country and choose this region as their breeding grounds. Their dedicated and effective inspections not only serve the purpose of protection but also act as a means of control.
The primary focus of their inspections is to combat poaching activities and address any concerns related to hunters and other negative factors that might pose a threat to the flamingos. Currently, the flamingos are in the incubation period, and after hatching, they require access to fresh water. As a preventive measure, the team consistently checks if any fresh water is entering Salt Lake. In case of any potential issues, they collaborate with relevant institutions to ensure the fresh water is delivered safely to the lake.
Bozkurt reassured that there are no problems concerning the flamingo population in the city. He expressed his optimism that this year’s breeding period will be trouble-free for the flamingos. Additionally, they receive support from non-governmental organizations who actively participate in the flamingo inspection efforts. To avoid disturbing the birds in their breeding and feeding areas, the team carefully observes them from a distance, using binoculars.
In their mission to protect the flamingos, their work extends beyond the birds themselves.
