Man Terrorizes Tenant, Forces Them to Leave Apartment
In the Karabağlar district, an incident occurred where a landlord’s son, Abdulhamit B. (24), caused chaos by pressuring the door of his tenant, whom he demanded to vacate the premises. The terrifying moment when the furious homeowner kicked and punched the door for minutes, barged into the house, and gave the ultimatum “I will give you 3 days, vacate the house” was captured on camera.
The tenant, Arzu Akbulut (52), is still in shock from the ordeal. Akbulut expressed her fear, stating, “If I had opened the door, my dead body would have left this house.” She recounted how the landlord and his mother forced the door open for 35-40 minutes, causing her great distress. Akbulut explained that she locked herself in the house and filed a complaint after feeling helpless.
Despite packing her belongings to leave, Akbulut could not find a new place to stay due to budget constraints. She shared, “I have been a tenant here for 12 years. My previous landlord was different, and the house was sold 3 years ago. There was no issue between us. My current landlord’s son demanded I leave because he was getting married in September. I explained that I would move out once I found a new place within my budget as a military worker. However, with the current market rates, finding an affordable home is challenging.”
Moreover, Akbulut revealed that she offered to pay a higher rent, but her proposal was rejected. She described a threatening phone call from the landlord’s son prior to the incident and the tense encounter that followed, where her safety was compromised.
The incident has left Akbulut traumatized and anxious for justice, as the harassers, Abdulhamit B. and his mother Havva B., remain at large and are being sought by authorities.
The ordeal sheds light on the difficulties faced by tenants, especially when it comes to finding affordable housing and dealing with harassing landlords. This disturbing incident highlights the need for stronger tenant protections and enforcement of laws to prevent such acts of aggression and intimidation in the future.
