Former Couple in Court Battle Over 140,000 Lira Gift Post Breakup
A bizarre love story between two individuals from different cities in Turkey has taken a dark turn, involving expensive gifts, legal battles, and criminal allegations. GT and MS, who met online and started a relationship, saw their love story turn sour after GT decided to end the romance.
MS, who hails from Kayseri, showered GT, an e-commerce entrepreneur from Ankara, with extravagant gifts such as cell phones, watches, epilators, and more during their relationship. However, after GT decided to break up with MS, he demanded a reimbursement of 130 thousand liras, the total cost of the gifts he had given her. When GT failed to respond to the payment order sent through the Kayseri Enforcement Office due to relocation, her bank account was seized, and the amount, along with attorney fees, was paid to MS.
Dissatisfied with the unfair enforcement proceedings, GT sought legal recourse through her lawyer. The lawyer argued that the gifts exchanged between the ex-lovers should be considered donations, as per Court of Cassation decisions, and that the enforcement proceedings were unjust. Additionally, GT obtained a restraining order against MS, accusing him of following and harassing her.
In a surprising twist, MS retaliated by filing a criminal complaint against GT, alleging that she had defrauded him by promising to marry him. He further accused her of insult, threat, slander, and even prostitution.
GT, on the other hand, maintained that she never asked for the gifts and that MS had been harassing her by moving to Ankara and sending threatening messages. Her lawyer emphasized the unfair treatment GT was facing and criticized the intimidation tactics employed by MS.
The legal battle between the former lovers continues, with both parties presenting contrasting narratives and accusations. GT’s lawyer expressed concerns about her client’s safety and vowed to fight against the defamation and harassment she has been subjected to.
As the case unfolds, the complexities of relationships in the digital age and the legal implications of gift-giving between partners come to light, shedding light on the darker side of romance gone wrong.
