Former Police Officer and Deputy Prosecutor Arrested for Bribery in Asaka

The State Security Service in Uzbekistan has uncovered illegal activities involving officials in the Asaka district of the Andijan region. An operation conducted by the Andijan Regional SSS Department led to the discovery of corrupt practices by former employees of the district’s Department of Internal Affairs.

One former investigator from the DIA’s investigative unit in Asaka district was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of $15,000 to manipulate a criminal case involving a construction company. This individual had promised to reduce the amount of damage determined during the investigation in exchange for the bribe. As a result, a criminal case has been initiated against the former investigator and the deputy district prosecutor involved in the scheme.

In a separate incident, the deputy of the Asaka district governor for agricultural issues demanded $40,000 from a buyer in exchange for the sale of 50 acres of land leased to a company specializing in animal husbandry. This official also sought to change the category of the land to a non-residential area through fraudulent means. The deputy governor was apprehended while receiving a bribe and, subsequently, a criminal case has been initiated against him, as well as the head of the district’s agricultural department and the head of the Cadastre Agency.

The State Security Service is cracking down on corruption and illegal activities within government agencies, ensuring accountability and transparency in Uzbekistan. These recent cases highlight the commitment of law enforcement authorities to root out corruption at all levels of government.
