Former Toshshahartransxizmat Head Anvar Jorayev and Deputy Found Guilty and Sentenced to Prison

Anvar Jorayev, the former head of Toshshahartransxizmat, and his deputy, Abdujamil Azizov, have been convicted of offenses such as embezzlement of state property and official forgery. The Almazot District Court for Criminal Cases delivered their verdict, sentencing Jorayev and Azizov to 7.5 years of imprisonment.

The trial, which involved 20 other individuals, was presided over by Judge Umidbek Musayev from the Yunusobod District Court for Criminal Cases. According to “Gazeta.uz,” the court trial addressed 24 episodes reflecting the crimes committed by the defendants.

Anvar Jorayev, who held various positions within Toshshahartransxizmat, including chairman, was also banned from holding authority in the system and sentenced to 7 years and 6 months in prison. His charges included embezzlement, evasion of taxes, abuse of power, official forgery, and more. Jorayev denied all charges during his testimony.

Abdujamil Azizov, the former deputy chairman, faced similar charges and was sentenced to 7 years and 6 months in prison. He, too, denied the allegations against him during the trial.

Several other individuals involved in the case received varying sentences and fines, including Husan Mahkamov, Ahmad Alimov, Bekzod Ibragimov, Shuhrat Ahmedov, Dilshod Toshpulotov, Shoaziz Ashirov, Ismoil Baratov, Sunnat Rahimberdiyev, Najmiddin Davlatov, Habibulla Muzaffarov, Kozimbek Hudoyorov, Bakhtiyor Sharipov, Ravshan Atamuhamedov, Islombek Ibragimov, and Nargiza Abdurahmonova.

Upon the verdict’s legal effect, significant amounts will be recovered in favor of the Ministry of Economy and Finance through joint and several liabilities. Various seized amounts will also be directed towards compensating for the material damage caused.

Defense lawyers have filed appeals following the trial. The case originally emerged in February 2024 when Jorayev resigned from his positions amidst speculation of his detainment, which was later confirmed. Prior to this, Jorayev had faced reprimands and warnings from the President due to dissatisfaction with the transport sector’s performance in Tashkent.

Anvar Jorayev had previously served as the chairman of Toshshahartransxizmat and had been temporarily removed from his position before being reinstated in 2019. The case sheds light on the consequences of corruption and misconduct within state organizations, emphasizing the importance of accountability and transparency in public service.
