France Condemns Forced Migration of Palestinians in Gaza
French ambassador to the United Nations, Nicolas de Riviere, has strongly condemned the idea of forced migration of Palestinians in Gaza. Speaking in response to recent statements by Israeli officials supporting the “voluntary migration” of Palestinians, de Riviere stated that France is firmly against the forced displacement of populations, including in Gaza.
“We will not support the forced displacement of people in Gaza. Palestinians live in the Gaza Strip. Our goal is to ensure that Palestinians continue to live here safely and under good conditions,” de Riviere said.
He also criticized the idea of re-colonizing Gaza and emphasized that the priority should be to end the military operation in the region. “The important thing is to end the military operation. Palestinian people should be able to live in peace without being bombed in their homes. Schools and hospitals should not be targeted,” de Riviere stated.
Addressing the allegations that Hamas used civilians and schools as shields, de Riviere acknowledged the issue but insisted that any doubt should prevent bombing of civilian areas. “If there is any doubt, then that school should not be bombed,” he said.
Furthermore, de Riviere highlighted the urgent need for the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions regarding humanitarian aid to Gaza. He emphasized that while humanitarian aid is essential, a sustainable ceasefire and resolution of the political issues at the root are crucial to move forward.
In conclusion, de Riviere underlined the importance of protecting civilians and stressed, “There are 2 million civilians in Gaza, not 2 million terrorists. It is okay to target terrorists, but you cannot target civilians. Indiscriminate bombing must end.”
As the conflict in Gaza continues to escalate, France’s stance against forced displacement and its emphasis on protecting civilian lives stand as a crucial voice in the international community.
