France Condemns Attack on UN Headquarters in Gaza
France has issued a strong condemnation of the recent attack on the United Nations (UN) headquarters in Khan Younis, Gaza, which resulted in the loss of many lives. In a written statement released by the Ministry, France emphasized the importance of protecting UN centers in Gaza and the humanitarian aid workers who are crucial for the well-being of the civilian population in the region.
The statement reiterated France’s unwavering support for humanitarian aid workers and stressed the moral and international obligation to protect the civilian population. Additionally, Israel was called upon to adhere to international humanitarian law in Gaza, particularly in terms of the principles of discrimination, necessity, proportionality, and precaution.
Furthermore, France urged for immediate action towards a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, emphasizing that this is the only solution to end the suffering of the civilian population. The recent attack targeted the training center of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), where thousands of civilians had sought shelter.
