French actor Gerard Depardieu detained by Paris police for questioning in sexual assault case
According to reports in the French press, 75-year-old actor Gerard Depardieu has been detained by Paris police for questioning in relation to allegations of sexual assault. The allegations date back to incidents that occurred during filming in 2012 and 2014, when Depardieu is accused of sexually assaulting two women.
One of the complaints against Depardieu was made by actress Charlotte Arnould in 2020, who accused him of “rape” and “sexual assault.” Another actress, Helene Darras, also accused Depardieu of sexually assaulting her during a movie shoot in 2007, but her complaint was rejected due to the statute of limitations.
Despite facing multiple accusations of sexual assault, Depardieu has maintained his innocence. In an open letter published in Le Figaro in October 2023, Depardieu denied the allegations against him, stating, “I have never, ever harassed a woman.”
