French Government Urged to Investigate Alleged War Crimes by Soldiers in Israeli Army

French MP Calls for Justice for Soldiers Committing War Crimes in the Israeli Army
French MP Portes has made a bold statement calling for justice for French soldiers serving in the Israeli army in Gaza and the West Bank. He has demanded that these soldiers be brought before French justice if they are found to be committing war crimes.
In his statement, Portes emphasized the unacceptable nature of French citizens participating in the war crimes committed by the Israeli army. He also shared that he will be applying to the Public Prosecutor’s Office to address the issue.
Citing a report by Europe 1 radio, Portes highlighted that there are currently 4,185 French soldiers serving in the Israeli army in Gaza, making France the second-ranking country after the USA in terms of soldiers in the Israeli army.
Portes pointed out the alarming statistics provided by the United Nations (UN) regarding the number of Palestinian casualties in Israel’s attacks on Gaza. More than 19,000 Palestinians have died in these attacks since October 7, according to the UN’s findings.
The MP also mentioned the UN’s concerns about the risk of genocide in the region and emphasized that colonialism is recognized as a crime against humanity. Portes stressed that if French citizens are found to be contributing to colonialism, this should be thoroughly investigated.
Portes called on Minister of Justice Dupond-Moretti to examine the responsibility of French citizens serving in Gaza and the West Bank. He urged the minister to ensure that any French citizen, including dual citizens, who committed war crimes be brought to justice in France.
The MP’s strong stance on the issue reflects the growing concern and calls for accountability regarding the involvement of French citizens in war crimes in the Israeli army. It remains to be seen how the government will respond to these demands for justice.
