Gas Leak Causes Explosion in Paris Neighborhood: 16 Injured, Building Collapses
An explosion occurred in the Val de Grace neighborhood of Paris due to a gas leak, announced Edouard Civel, Deputy Mayor of the 5th District. Civel took to Twitter to inform the public that several apartments caught fire and urged residents to stay away from the scene to allow firefighters to intervene.
French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin also confirmed the incident on Twitter, stating that the fire was ongoing on Saint-Jacques Street. Firefighters were immediately dispatched to the area.
According to reports in the French press, 16 people have been injured, with 7 in serious condition. Tragically, a building collapsed as a result of the explosion.
Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo promptly arrived at the scene to assess the situation and provide support.
The cause of the explosion is still unknown, according to the Paris Prosecutor’s Office. Investigations are underway to determine the exact trigger of the incident.
Currently, at the site, there are 230 firefighters and 9 medical professionals working tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of those affected.
