German Associations Call for Halt to Arms Exports to Israel
Several associations have collaborated to send a joint open letter to various key German government officials regarding the humanitarian situation in Palestine. The letter, addressed to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and several ministers including those responsible for economy, climate protection, foreign affairs, justice, defense, and economic cooperation and development, urged the German government to take action in light of recent decisions made by the International Court of Justice and the United Nations.
Citing the decisions of the ICJ and UN, as well as the statements of UN officials and experts, the letter called on Germany to use its influence on Israel within the bounds of international law and ICJ rulings. One of the key requests was for Germany to cease arms exports to Israel, particularly weapons that could potentially be used in human rights violations in Gaza and the West Bank.
