German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s upcoming visits to Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is set to embark on a visit to Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan from September 15 to September 17, as announced by the official spokesman for the German government, Steffen Hebestreit.
During his visit, Chancellor Scholz will participate in the second Central Asia – Germany meeting in C5+1 format. The discussions will focus on expanding cooperation with Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, which are key partners for Germany in various sectors such as science, economy, energy, communications, and raw materials.
Accompanying the Chancellor will be a large high-level business delegation, indicating the importance and interest of German businesses in enhancing ties with the Central Asian countries.
The newly established Central Asia – Germany format intersects with the Central Asia – European Union format, also initiated by Germany. The European Union aims to strengthen its presence and work in the region, with a focus on promoting development, well-being, and sustainability in Central Asian countries over the next 30 years.
This initiative follows the successful first summit held in Berlin in September 2023, where the heads of the region’s countries expressed support for establishing a strategic regional partnership with Germany.
Furthermore, Vice Chancellor and Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate Protection Robert Habeck has expressed Germany’s interest in exploring new trade partnerships, particularly with Central Asian nations. German companies are evaluating investment opportunities in various sectors in countries like Kyrgyzstan, including raw materials, renewable energy sources, and human resources.
Overall, the visit of Chancellor Scholz to Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan signifies Germany’s commitment to strengthening ties with Central Asia and exploring mutually beneficial partnerships for economic growth and development.
