German Reaction to Trump’s Presidency: A Disaster Awaited

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has shared his concerns about the potential re-election of Donald Trump in the upcoming United States presidential elections, calling it a “disaster”. Speaking at the Berlin Foreign Policy Forum, Pistorius highlighted the potential negative impact of Trump’s re-election on US activities in Europe.
Pistorius also noted that if current President Joe Biden wins, the USA will shift its focus to the Indo-Pacific region, which he described as a positive development. However, he also pointed out that this shift might lead to a decrease in US activities in Europe, requiring European NATO members to take on more responsibility for defense cooperation.
The German Defense Minister emphasized the need for European countries to enhance their defense cooperation and develop compatible weapon systems. He specifically highlighted the lack of a system against long-range missiles in Europe, stating that even though there is currently no immediate threat, it is important to start developing such systems without delay.
Pistorius revealed that Germany has decided to order the Arrow 3 air defense system from Israel, citing the urgency of developing defense capabilities to address potential threats. His remarks shed light on the shifting dynamics in global defense strategies and the increasing responsibility placed on European NATO members to ensure their own security in the face of geopolitical changes.
