German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock Supports Israel’s Right to Self-Defense Against Hamas
During the 60th Munich Security Conference, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock expressed her country’s support for Israel’s right to self-defense against Hamas. However, she also emphasized the importance of Tel Aviv complying with international law.
Baerbock stressed the need for humanitarian relief in the region, stating that a place without food, drink, and medical care is not safe. She highlighted the challenges faced by the people in Rafah, a place located on the Egyptian border with limited options for movement due to the sea and the Israeli border.
In her recent meetings in Israel, Baerbock discussed the welfare issue with various actors, including US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. She emphasized the necessity of providing safe spaces and infrastructure for the more than 1 million people seeking refuge in Rafah, not only in the short term but also in the long term.
The statements made by the German Foreign Minister shed light on Germany’s position regarding the Israel-Hamas conflict and its commitment to addressing the humanitarian crisis in the region.
