Germany extends stay for earthquake victims with relatives in the country

Germany Grants Extension of Stay for Turkish Earthquake Victims

The German Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Interior joint statement announced that Turkish earthquake victims who are staying with their relatives in Germany have been granted a 3-month extension of their stay in Germany. The statement stipulated that those who entered Germany between 6 February and 7 May 2023 with a valid visa issued by a German diplomatic mission in Turkey will be exempted from the residence permit requirement until 6 August.

The new regulation, which takes effect tomorrow, applies to Turkish citizens who have obtained a visa through a “simplified process” and are legally in Germany. The individuals in question do not need to visit the foreigners’ office.

Germany’s Foreign Affairs and Interior Ministries agree to grant visa facilitation for Turks and Syrians residing in the country to bring their affected close relatives from the Kahramanmaraş earthquake to Germany for a 3-month period. Following this decision, approximately 9,500 Turkish citizens affected by the earthquake received visas for their temporary stay in Germany, and about 900 Turkish citizens obtained visas for family reunification for the same reason.

This decision is a part of Germany’s aid efforts for earthquake victims in Turkey. The country has been working closely with the Turkish government to help those struggling after the devastating earthquake.
