İzmir Peninsula: A Haven for Diving Enthusiasts
Located approximately 100 kilometers away from Karaburun, İzmir Peninsula is known for its unique geographical structure that extends into the sea. With its rich underwater life and numerous shipwrecks, it has become a popular destination for diving athletes.
Divers visiting İzmir Peninsula have the opportunity to explore 17 different diving points, including the intriguing shipwrecks. The underwater world here is teeming with colorful creatures such as grouper, leer, sea hare, tuna, sea bream, sea bugs, lionfish, octopus, and moray eel.
One of the main attractions for divers is the five spots off the coast of Karaburun that are perfect for night diving. These locations continue to captivate both local and foreign divers.
Night diving imposes stricter rules compared to daytime dives, allowing only divers with a rating of 2 stars, indicating their experience level, to participate. However, diving enthusiasts are rewarded with the opportunity to observe underwater creatures that react to artificial light by displaying vibrant colors, including those that are not visible during the day.
Hamdullah Aras, an instructor at the Karaburun Diving Center, highlights the abundance of underwater creatures in this region, making it one of the finest spots on the Turkish coast for diving, especially at night.
Aras mentions that this year alone, nearly a thousand athletes chose Karaburun as their preferred destination for night diving. He emphasizes the importance of raising awareness about the region through night dives. During these dives, divers can witness a variety of macro creatures, including anemones, crawfish, starfish, sea rabbits, tube worms, eels, sea centipedes, and squids. Furthermore, the use of ultraviolet lights during night dives allows divers to observe the mesmerizing color changes and phosphorescent structures of marine organisms that are otherwise invisible to the naked eye. This creates a magical and fairytale-like visual experience.
