Guterres Pushes for Africa’s Permanent UNSC Seat

UN Secretary-General Guterres Calls for Reforms and Ceasefire in Gaza
In a recent post on the social media platform X, United Nations Secretary-General Guterres emphasized the need for institutions to reflect today’s world, rather than that of 80 years ago. He specifically pointed out the lack of representation for Africa in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), stating that the upcoming summit in September would provide an opportunity to evaluate global governance reforms and rebuild trust.
Guterres also reiterated his call for a ceasefire in Gaza, emphasizing the urgent need for immediate humanitarian action. He called for the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages, highlighting the ongoing crisis in Gaza as a result of Israeli attacks. He emphasized that the people of Gaza are not only dying from bombs and bullets but also from the lack of access to food, clean water, electricity in hospitals, and medicine.
The Secretary-General’s strong stance on the need for reforms and humanitarian action highlights the pressing issues facing the international community. As the summit in September approaches, it is clear that Guterres will continue to advocate for meaningful change and immediate action to address the crises in Gaza and beyond.
