Hamas Refutes Israeli Claims: Arrested Individuals in Gaza Were Scholars and Community Leaders

Hamas Disputes Israeli Army Arrests at Shifa Hospital in Gaza
Hamas has refuted claims made by the Israeli army regarding the arrest of its members at the Shifa Hospital in Gaza. In a statement released late last night by the Palestinian organization, it was clarified that the individuals on the alleged arrest list were mostly academics, doctors, and civil society leaders seeking refuge in the hospital.
According to reports from Al Jazeera, Hamas emphasized in their statement that the remaining individuals were civilians who had sought shelter in the hospital complex to escape the relentless bombardment taking place in the region. The government in Gaza went on to accuse the Israeli army of conducting aggressive operations and deliberately targeting and killing 13 patients within the hospital.
The government further lamented that the oxygen supply to the patients was cut off after a facility was damaged during the bombings, and stressed that the patients were in dire need of constant oxygen support.
The situation in Gaza continues to escalate, with the Israeli army storming the Shifa Hospital on March 18 and cordoning off the compound where displaced Palestinians had sought refuge. Eyewitnesses have reported Israeli tank fire hitting civilian residences in the vicinity of the hospital in the Rimal neighborhood.
Furthermore, Israel has carried out airstrikes on homes in the Rimal neighborhood near the Amal Orphan Institute, where numerous Palestinian families who had been displaced from various parts of Gaza were residing. Tragically, many individuals have lost their lives or sustained injuries as a result of these attacks.
Compounding the dire circumstances, ambulances and emergency vehicles are unable to access the area due to being targeted by Israeli forces. Palestinians around the Shifa Hospital are enduring a blockade, unable to leave their homes and facing acute shortages of water and food.
The relentless onslaught by the Israeli army in the vicinity of the Shifa Hospital, a site that has been repeatedly targeted in the past, has been ongoing for five consecutive days. The Palestinians in the area remain trapped in a harrowing situation, with their lives and well-being hanging in the balance.
