Harrisburg Man Facing Charges for Arson Attack on Pennsylvania Governor’s Residence
A 38-year-old man was arrested and will be facing charges of attempted homicide and aggravated arson after setting fire to Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro’s residence. The incident occurred overnight, as reported by state authorities at a press conference held at the governor’s mansion in Harrisburg on April 13.
The suspect, identified as Cody Balmer from Harrisburg, managed to slip over a fence surrounding the property while carrying homemade incendiary devices. Despite the efforts of state troopers, Balmer entered the residence, set it on fire, and then fled the scene. Fortunately, he was apprehended shortly before the press conference on Sunday.
State police acted quickly to evacuate Shapiro and his family from the residence around 2 a.m. as local firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze. Thankfully, no one was injured, although burn marks were visible on parts of the building.
Shapiro, a Democrat and potential candidate for his party’s presidential nomination in 2028, expressed gratitude for the support received in the aftermath of the attack. FBI Director Kash Patel assured him of the full resources of the federal government being deployed in the investigation.
US Attorney General Pam Bondi also shared relief at the safety of the governor and his family, praising the swift arrest of Balmer. The incident occurred shortly after Shapiro had shared a photo of his family celebrating the first night of the Jewish holiday of Passover, symbolizing the journey from slavery to freedom.
The motive behind Balmer’s actions remains unknown as authorities continue their investigation into this disturbing incident.
