Heir to the Presidency: Son Biden’s Defiance of Congress
Hunter Biden Refuses to Testify Behind Closed Doors
Hunter Biden, the son of the House of Representatives who was asked to testify as part of the investigation into the impeachment of US President Joe Biden, has stated that he would only accept to testify if it is done in a public setting.
Biden made a press statement in front of the Congress building, near the deadline given to him to testify before the House of Representatives Oversight and Accountability Committee. He criticized the Republican members of the Committee and rejected their request to testify behind closed doors.
In his statement, Hunter Biden defended his father, stating, “Let me say it as clearly as I can, my father did not interfere with my business, neither in my domestic nor in my foreign investments.” He added, “There is no evidence to support allegations that my father was financially involved in my business because that did not happen.”
Biden’s lawyers have expressed their client’s willingness to testify before the Oversight and Accountability Committee, but they insist that it be done publicly, while Republican members of the Committee are pushing for a secret testimony.
The Oversight and Accountability Committee’s decision to summon Hunter Biden for a hearing comes at a crucial time as the vote on the decision to formalize the impeachment investigation against Joe Biden is expected.
The House of Representatives’ multi-pronged impeachment inquiry into the US President is also looking into allegations about whether Biden’s family members improperly benefited from foreign business dealings or used the policy to gain profit, as well as claims that the Justice Department improperly slowed down tax crimes.
