Houthis Announce 64 Non-Israeli Ships Passed Red Sea

The Houthis in Yemen have been causing disruption and concern in the Red Sea, with their attacks on ships affiliated with Israeli companies. Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, Member of the Supreme Political Council of the Houthis, made a statement on social media platform X, proposing a simple solution to ensure safe passage for ships through the Red Sea.

Houthi suggested that ships should include the phrase “We have no connection with Israel” in their automatic identification systems, as this has proven to be effective in ensuring safe passage. Since November, when the targeting of Israeli ships began, 64 ships using this phrase have passed safely through the Red Sea.

The attacks by the Houthis have prompted many shipping companies to halt their voyages in the Red Sea. Additionally, the United States has announced the formation of a multinational “maritime task force” called “Operation Welfare Guardian” to counter the threat posed by the Houthis, with the participation of several countries.

Despite international efforts to address the situation, tensions continue to escalate. The United Nations Security Council has adopted a resolution demanding an immediate end to the Houthis’ attacks in the Red Sea.

The disruption in the Red Sea is a matter of global concern, as approximately 12 percent of global trade is conducted through the Suez Canal, making it a vital route between Europe and Asia. The ongoing situation in the Red Sea highlights the importance of finding a resolution to ensure the safety and security of maritime trade in the region.
