Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has shared a disturbing account of the situation in Gaza, with a doctor describing the conditions as “terrible” for the Palestinians. Dr. Burns, who arrived in Gaza on December 17, expressed his shock at the devastation and suffering he witnessed.
“Gaza is gone. There’s not much left. I’m sorry, it’s hard for Palestinians to live here again,” Dr. Burns stated, highlighting the dire circumstances in the region.
Upon crossing the Rafah Border Gate into Gaza, Dr. Burns observed people desperately searching for food, indicating the severe shortage and hunger prevalent in the area. Additionally, he noted that the hospitals in Gaza are overwhelmed and in chaos, with Nasser Hospital transforming into more of a refugee camp than a medical facility.
Dr. Burns emphasized the distressing sight of injured patients lying on the floor covered in blood, with some even intubated on the ground due to the overwhelming number of casualties.
The situation in Gaza has become increasingly dire following Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, which was launched in response to perceived violations against Palestinians and sacred sites. The conflict has resulted in devastating casualties and destruction, with thousands of Palestinians, including numerous children and women, losing their lives.
