Hungarian Party Emerges as Strong Ally of German AfD

Mi Hazánk, a radical opposition party in Hungary, has selected its leader, László Toroczkai, to lead its European parliamentary election list. Deputy party leader Dóra Dúró has been placed second on the list. Both Toroczkai and Dúró have expressed their willingness to step aside in favor of other party members representing the party in the European Parliament, while they themselves plan to retain their seats in the national assembly.

Toroczkai emphasized that Mi Hazánk is fighting against “anti-nationalist ideological networks” that have a significant influence in the world. He mentioned that Germany’s Alternative für Deutschland is one of the party’s key allies. Additionally, he stated that if new party alliances are formed in the European Parliament post-elections, Mi Hazánk is prepared to join an “anti-globalist party family working towards a Europe of nations.”

The party’s focus is on building a “Hungarian future rather than a globalist dictatorship,” according to their statement. The list for the European parliamentary election also includes historian Zsuzsanna Borvendég, Vojvodina engineer Szilveszter Kispalkó, and János Árgyelán, the party’s foreign affairs spokesman.

In a related development, Fidesz MEP Kinga Gál stressed the importance of peace in Ukraine and Hungary’s interest in maintaining stability and prosperity in Europe. She condemned Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and reiterated Hungary’s support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity. Gál also emphasized Hungary’s commitment to a common defense policy and the strengthening of Europe’s defense industry.

Furthermore, Gál criticized the ideological statements in the reports discussed in the European Parliament, highlighting the need to focus on Europe’s real interests such as competitiveness. She supported Olivér Várhelyi, the commissioner for enlargement and neighborhood policy, and stressed the importance of speeding up the European integration of the Western Balkans.

Lastly, Gál expressed concerns about proposals for qualified majority voting, stating that they would undermine the sovereignty of member states, especially smaller ones. She called for a focus on policies that benefit all EU member states.
