Many Health Facilities in Sudan Become Dysfunctional Due to Conflicts, Says WHO
The World Health Organization (WHO) has expressed concern over the dire situation in Sudan, where frequent conflicts have caused many health facilities to become dysfunctional. According to WHO spokesperson Tarik Jasarevic, many people have lost their lives outside the hospital due to these conflicts, and the situation is worrying for approximately 20 thousand pregnant women who will not be able to receive prenatal care.
The ongoing conflicts have been devastating for the country’s healthcare system, leaving many hospitals and clinics in disarray. As a result, people who require medical attention are having a difficult time accessing it. The situation has become particularly concerning for pregnant women who are expecting to receive prenatal care but cannot due to the conflict.
According to Jasarevic, many health facilities haven’t received medical supplies in months, and medical staff are not being paid, which has further decreased healthcare infrastructure in Sudan. Moreover, many healthcare workers are not present, as they either had to flee the area or have been forced to stop their work.
The WHO is working to address the issue and help those in need. The organization has provided medical supplies to some regions in Sudan to help mitigate the shortage of supplies, but more support is needed to address the healthcare issue holistically.
The conflict in Sudan has caused significant damage to the country’s healthcare structure, leading to many facilities becoming dysfunctional.
