Iga Swiatek Wins Third French Open Title, Becomes Youngest Player to Win Four Grand Slam Titles Since Serena Williams
Poland’s Iga Swiatek has won her third French Open title and fourth grand slam championship at the 2023 Roland Garros Tournament. The 22-year-old defeated Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic in a hard-fought, three-set match that lasted 2 hours and 46 minutes.
Swiatek took control of the match early on, winning the first set 6-2. However, Muchova battled back in the second set, breaking Swiatek’s serve and winning the set 7-5. In the third set, Muchova took an early 2-0 lead, but Swiatek remained calm under pressure and won the set 6-4 and the match 2-1.
With her win, Swiatek becomes the youngest female tennis player to win four grand slam titles since Serena Williams. She also received a monetary award of 2.3 million euros (approximately 58 million lira).
This victory marks Swiatek’s third singles title at Roland Garros and her 14th career singles championship overall. In addition to her three French Open titles, Swiatek also won the 2022 US Open.
Muchova, who made her first career grand slam final appearance, was disappointed with the loss. However, she can take pride in the hard-fought match that she played against a tough opponent.
Swiatek’s win solidifies her place as one of the top players in women’s tennis and one to watch for years to come. With three French Open titles and four grand slam championships under her belt at just 22 years old, there is no telling how many more records and victories she will achieve in her career.
