Ilham Aliyev pledges unwavering support for Northern Cyprus

Azerbaijan’s Role in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Observing the Organization of Turkic States
President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan highlighted the significant role played by Azerbaijan in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus becoming an observer in the Organization of Turkic States. Speaking at an international forum titled “Facing the New World Order” at ADA University, President Aliyev emphasized Azerbaijan’s active advocacy for the observer status of Northern Cyprus.
President Aliyev mentioned, “We are always with our brothers in Northern Cyprus. Our policy is straightforward and clear, aimed at supporting our brothers who deserve to have their own state based on history and actions.” He recalled the referendum initiated by then-UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, where Turkish Cyprus voted for unification while Greek Cyprus voted against it. Subsequently, Southern Cyprus was invited and became a member of the European Union, raising questions of fairness and double standards.
President Aliyev assured the support of Azerbaijan for Northern Cyprus until the establishment of an independent country recognized by the international community. He affirmed that Azerbaijan stands in solidarity with its brothers in Northern Cyprus and will continue to advocate for their rightful place on the global stage.
The commitment and support extended by Azerbaijan to Northern Cyprus underscore the strong bond and unity among Turkic nations in the pursuit of justice and recognition in the international arena.
