Imamoğlu’s Response to Project – Latest News from Turkey

The Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), Ekrem İmamoğlu, has highlighted the transformation of silos into cultural areas as an exemplary project. İmamoğlu emphasized the importance of repurposing abandoned spaces for the benefit of citizens, stating that the silos, which had been left unused for years and were previously used as fuel tankers, have now been turned into culture and arts centers for the people of Beykoz.
In response to questions from journalists, İmamoğlu also addressed accusations made by the People’s Alliance’s Metropolitan Mayor candidate, Murat Kurum, regarding the opposition’s use of a mining accident in Erzincan for political gain. İmamoğlu asserted that the environmental issue is inherently political and is closely linked to the larger perspective on politics and life.
Furthermore, İmamoğlu criticized the Institution for the Atatürk Airport National Garden and the Canal Istanbul project, whose zoning plan was recently revoked. He expressed concern over the destruction of a 135 million square meter basin and the Sazlıdere Dam, cautioning against the deceptive claim of creating green space in Istanbul.
Regarding the upcoming elections, İmamoğlu mentioned that while they have seen satisfactory results from surveys, the candidates in Istanbul are still in the process of maturing. He hinted at the likelihood of new candidates emerging and stated that concrete survey data will provide a clearer picture in the near future.
The transformation of silos into cultural areas and İmamoğlu’s comments on environmental issues and election readiness shed light on the ongoing developments in Istanbul’s political and cultural landscape.
