Implementation of Electronic Payments for Utility and Budget Organizations
The government has recently announced a new resolution that aims to expand the use of electronic payment systems in various sectors. Budget organizations serving the public, utility companies selling gas and oil products, and legal entities renting out property have been given a deadline of July 1, 2025, to integrate electronic payment systems and allow customers to make transactions through them.
The resolution states that failure to accept payments via electronic payment systems will be considered equivalent to denying payments through physical terminals, potentially leading to penalties under the law. In response to this resolution, the Tax Committee and the Ministry of Economy and Finance have been given a two-month deadline to submit proposals for legislative amendments to enforce this requirement.
Moreover, the Strategic Reforms Agency, in collaboration with relevant ministries and agencies, has been tasked with developing a comprehensive action plan aimed at increasing the share of electronic payments for the period of 2025-2030. This action plan must be presented to the government by July 1, 2025.
