
In Our Mutual Interest: Turkey’s Interests Aligned with Ours

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev recently appeared on local television channels to discuss various topics on the agenda. During his interviews, Aliyev expressed his gratitude towards Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for supporting Azerbaijan’s candidacy for membership in the Eight Developing Countries (D-8) Organization.
Aliyev emphasized that Azerbaijan’s membership in D-8 is both a great honor and a significant responsibility. He highlighted Azerbaijan’s commitment to defending the interests of Muslim countries in international organizations and providing aid to various Muslim nations, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Furthermore, Aliyev discussed the changing global order and the need for new influential actors to address emerging challenges. He proposed that the Organization of Turkish States could become a significant power center globally, with D-8 filling a crucial gap in the international arena.
The Azerbaijani President also addressed the issue of Armenia’s armament, labeling Armenia as a fascist state and expressing concerns about the escalating tensions in the South Caucasus region. Aliyev outlined the conditions for peace negotiations with Armenia, emphasizing the importance of Armenia ceasing its armament efforts.
Additionally, Aliyev stressed the significance of opening the Zengezur Corridor for transportation between Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan. He underscored Azerbaijan’s leading economic and military power in the South Caucasus region and emphasized the importance of respecting the November 10 Declaration agreements.
Aliyev also commended the positive developments in Syria and Turkey’s role in stabilizing the region. He expressed support for Turkey’s efforts to eliminate terrorism along its borders and highlighted the strategic alliance between Turkey and Azerbaijan.
In conclusion, Aliyev reiterated Azerbaijan’s steadfast support for the Palestinian cause and advocated for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He emphasized the importance of establishing an independent Palestinian state and called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza for the benefit of all parties involved.
