Turkey to Increase Scholarships for Turkmen Students to 100
Turkish President of the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB), Abdullah Eren, has announced plans to expand educational cooperation with Turkmenistan by increasing the number of scholarships for Turkmen students to 100 this year. This announcement came during a meeting with Turkmenistan’s Minister of Education, Jumamyrat Gurbangeldiyev, as part of an official visit to Ashgabat.
Eren highlighted the strong historical and cultural ties between Turkey and Turkmenistan, emphasizing the importance of the relationship between the two countries. Since 1992, over 3,000 citizens of Turkmenistan have received state scholarships from Turkey, with approximately 30,000 Turkmen students currently studying in Turkish universities.
“In the 2024–2025 academic year, we received 524 scholarship applications from Turkmenistan. We plan to grant scholarships to at least one hundred students this year,” stated Eren. He also expressed Turkey’s view of Turkmenistan as an integral part of the Turkic world, alongside other Turkic nations such as Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan.
The visit of the YTB President also includes meetings with representatives of other state and educational institutions in Turkmenistan, as well as a planned visit to the historical city of Merv. The educational cooperation between Turkey and Turkmenistan continues to strengthen, reflecting the deep bonds between the two nations.
