Trust in President Sadyr Japarov and Security Chief Kamchybek Tashiev Increases, Survey Shows

The level of trust in the President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov and the head of the State Committee for National Security Kamchybek Tashiev has seen an increase over the past eight months, according to data from the latest survey conducted by the International Republican Institute (IRI).

In the January 2024 survey, 37 percent of respondents expressed their trust in Sadyr Japarov, while 22 percent trusted Kamchybek Tashiev and 12 percent trusted Nurzhigit Kadyrbekov. The remaining votes were distributed among 17 other politicians, including two women – Elvira Surabaldieva and Roza Otunbaeva – and the Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

The survey also revealed that in September 2022, 38 percent of respondents trusted the head of state, but this number dropped to 35 percent in May 2023. However, since then, the rating of the president has slightly increased.

On the other hand, Kamchybek Tashiev’s rating is now higher than it was two years ago. In September 2022, around 18 percent of respondents trusted him, while in May last year, this number dropped to 14 percent. Currently, 22 percent of respondents trust him.

Moreover, there has been a significant increase in the distrust towards all politicians. In May 2023, only 8 percent of respondents stated that they did not trust anyone, but in January 2024, this number increased by 12 percent to 20 percent.

Overall, the survey reflects shifting dynamics in the public’s perception of political figures in Kyrgyzstan, highlighting the changing levels of trust and distrust among the population.
