The city of Kazan is set to host the international tournament of young chefs of Islamic countries from May 15 to 17 as part of KazanForum-2024. This tournament, named after Yunus Akhmetzyanov, will see more than 100 young chefs from 15 countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) showcasing their culinary skills.

Guests attending the tournament will have the opportunity to sample the national cuisine of the participating countries for free. Zufar Gayazov, President of the Association of Restaurateurs and Hoteliers of the Republic of Tatarstan, expressed his excitement about the event and mentioned that Tatar national cuisine will also be featured, with master classes on cooking Tatar dishes like ochpochmak.

A special food area and designated boxes will be set up for tournament guests daily from 11:00 to 16:00, where young chefs from countries such as Azerbaijan, Malaysia, Kyrgyzstan, and more will serve their national dishes. In addition to the culinary experience, guests will have the chance to learn about the cultural characteristics of the participating countries and attend lectures on proper nutrition.

The tournament features aspiring chefs under the age of 25 who had to present a set of 3 dishes using local products to qualify. Each finalist is paired with a master chef from their respective country who will act as their mentor throughout the competition.

The event is part of the XV International Economic Forum “Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum” taking place in Kazan from May 14 to 19. It promises to be a celebration of culinary diversity and cultural exchange.
