Turkmenistan and Armenia Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Relations
On 19 March 2025, Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Armenia, Muhammetgeldi Ayazov, had a meeting with the Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister of Armenia, Arayik Harutyunyan. The meeting focused on various aspects of the existing political, diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian relations between the two countries.
Ambassador Ayazov extended an invitation to the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, on behalf of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, to attend a representative forum for the International Year of Peace and Trust. This forum aims to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s Permanent Neutrality.
The discussion also touched upon the role of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Armenian Commission on Economic Cooperation, with plans for its next meeting scheduled for the end of March. Both parties emphasized the importance of strengthening the legal framework of Turkmen-Armenian cooperation.
Ambassador Ayazov highlighted that 2025 is being celebrated as the “International Year of Peace and Trust” in Turkmenistan, marking 30 years since the country declared permanent neutrality—an achievement recognized by UN General Assembly resolutions in 1995 and 2015. Additionally, the UN General Assembly adopted Turkmenistan’s resolution for the year 2025, with Armenia joining 86 other countries as co-authors.
The meeting also explored the potential for enhancing trade between Turkmenistan and Armenia through leveraging Turkmenistan’s transport and logistics capabilities.
As both countries look towards further collaboration and deepening their ties, the meeting between Ambassador Ayazov and Chief of Staff Harutyunyan signals a commitment to strengthening bilateral relations in various fields.
