Iraqi Embassy Sends Note to US Embassy

Iraqi Government Summons US Charge d’Affaires to Protest Recent Attacks

The government of Iraq has summoned the Charge d’Affaires of the US Baghdad Embassy to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in response to the recent air strikes carried out by the United States. The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement saying that the summoning of David Berker was to give a note of protest against the US attacks in the western part of the country, which targeted civilians and security forces.

The statement emphasized that the summoning of Berker was due to the absence of US Ambassador to Baghdad Alina Romanowski in the country, and emphasized that Iraqi territory should not be used as a battleground between warring countries.

“Our country is not a suitable place to show strength amidst hostilities,” the statement read. “The government will make every effort required by moral, national and constitutional responsibility to protect our lands and cities, as well as the lives of our civilians and security forces.”

In response to the US air strike targeting security forces in the city of Anbar in western Iraq, government spokesman Basim al-Awvadi announced that 16 people were killed and 25 were injured. The Iraqi government has declared a 3-day mourning period throughout the country for those who lost their lives in the air strikes carried out by the United States.
