Israeli Army Chief Approves Continuing War in Gaza

Israeli Army Approves Plans to Continue War in Gaza Strip
The Israeli Army’s social media account recently made a statement regarding the approval of plans to continue the war in the Gaza Strip. The statement mentioned that Lieutenant General Aviv Kochavi, also known as Halevi, approved the plans after meetings with Israel’s Southern Region Commander, Major General Yaron Finkelman, and other commanders.
Reports from Israel’s “Walla” website revealed that Chief of General Staff approved operational plans to invade Rafah in the south of the Gaza Strip during the discussions. This decision has sparked controversy, with Israel’s far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich stating that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government must invade Rafah to maintain its existence.
Rafah, a city located on the Egyptian border in southern Gaza, was home to around 280 thousand Palestinians before the recent Israeli attacks. Following the attacks on October 7, approximately 1.9 million people were displaced in the Gaza Strip, which has a total population of 2.3 million.
With most of the displaced Palestinians seeking refuge in Rafah, the city’s population skyrocketed to 1.5 million. Many of these individuals are living in makeshift tents in refugee camps, struggling to survive due to limited resources.
Israeli forces have been targeting Rafah with frequent airstrikes, raising concerns about the safety of civilians in the area. If Israel proceeds with a land attack on Rafah, it is feared that the already vulnerable population in the Gaza Strip will have nowhere to seek shelter.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has instructed the army and security services to prepare a plan for attacking Rafah, further escalating tensions in the region. The situation remains precarious, with the lives of many civilians hanging in the balance as the conflict intensifies.
