US Vice President JD Vance Warns Moscow and Kyiv to Strike Deal or Face Ceasefire End
US Vice President JD Vance issued a warning on April 23 that Moscow and Kyiv must come to an agreement or else Washington will cease its efforts to reach a ceasefire. The statement was made during a press conference in India, where Vance is currently on a four-day visit.
During the talks that took place in London with envoys from Washington, Kyiv, and European nations, Vance emphasized the need for both parties to say yes to the proposal put forward by the United States. He mentioned that it was time for the parties to either agree to stop the killing and freeze the territorial lines at their current positions or for the US to walk away from the negotiation process.
President Donald Trump had pledged to strike a deal between Moscow and Kyiv within 24 hours during his campaign, but has not been successful in securing concessions from President Vladimir Putin. Despite Trump’s proposal for an unconditional ceasefire in March, Kyiv accepted the principle while Putin rejected it. A separate agreement to halt attacks on energy infrastructure for 30 days was welcomed by the White House, but the Kremlin has indicated that they believe the moratorium has expired.
The ongoing negotiations between Russia and Ukraine continue to face challenges, with the US now urging both parties to make significant concessions in order to achieve peace. It remains to be seen whether Moscow and Kyiv will be able to reach a deal to end the conflict in Ukraine.
