Jordan Condemns Israel’s Iron Barrier at Al-Aqsa Mosque
Jordan Warns Against Israeli Restrictions on Masjid al-Aqsa Entrances
The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a warning against the restrictions imposed by Israel on entrances to the Masjid al-Aqsa. In a statement, Israel’s recent installation of fixed platforms surrounded by iron railings for police at the three gates of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, as well as placing iron barriers on both sides of the entrances, was described as a dangerous and unacceptable step.
The Ministry emphasized that Masjid al-Aqsa is a place of worship specific to Muslims, covering an area of 144 decares, and that the right to access it freely and without restrictions should be guaranteed. It stated that Israel does not have sovereignty over occupied East Jerusalem and therefore lacks the right to impose any restrictions preventing worshipers from entering the Masjid al-Aqsa.
Furthermore, the Ministry highlighted that the Jerusalem Islamic Foundations Administration, under the Ministry of Foundations, Islamic Affairs, and Sacred Affairs of Jordan, is responsible for the administration of the Masjid al-Aqsa and its entrances. Any ongoing provocations against the mosque were deemed as violations of international law and the legal and historical status of Jerusalem.
Israel had placed fixed platforms and iron barriers outside the “Faisal,” “Gavanime,” and “Hutta” gates of the Masjid al-Aqsa. In response, Israeli police claimed that the barriers were solely for police officers stationed at the gates and not to obstruct worshipers entering the mosque.
The situation at Masjid al-Aqsa remains tense as Jordan calls for the removal of these restrictions and reaffirms the right of Muslims to access the holy site without hindrance.
