Kazakh Music Makes a Comeback on Instagram and Facebook with New Copyright Deal

Kazakhstan Users Can Once Again Use Local Music on Instagram and Facebook
Users in Kazakhstan can now enjoy using local music in their Instagram and Facebook stories, reels, and posts, thanks to a new agreement between Meta and the Kazakhstan Authors’ Society. The announcement was made by Sholpan Abdreyeva, chairwoman of the Intellectual Property Committee, during a briefing at the Central Communications Service on April 14.
The two-year agreement resolves copyright issues that arose in November last year when access to Kazakh music was restricted on Meta platforms due to unresolved licensing issues. Abdreyeva stated, “Meta and Kazakhstan Authors’ Society have reached an agreement, settling all questions regarding the use of Kazakhstan’s music.”
Abdreyeva praised both parties for their constructive approach in resolving the matter and noted Meta’s commitment to respecting copyright and willingness to build partnerships with state and professional institutions.
This agreement not only benefits users in Kazakhstan who can now freely use local music in their social media posts but also sets a positive precedent for future collaborations between tech companies and content creators in the region.
