Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister Murat Nurtleu Visits Cyprus to Explore Cooperation Opportunities

ASTANA—Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Murat Nurtleu recently embarked on his first official visit to the Republic of Cyprus on March 5. The purpose of his visit was to explore new cooperation opportunities between the two nations.

During his visit, Nurtleu engaged in discussions with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides to strengthen bilateral cooperation and reaffirm their mutual desire to enhance ties. Christodoulides, who visited Kazakhstan in 2019 as Cyprus’ Foreign Minister, has been instrumental in advancing political dialogue and trade and economic relations between the two countries. Cyprus has identified Kazakhstan and India as priority partners in Asia.

Nurtleu conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from Kazakhstan’s President, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and highlighted Cyprus’ significance as a trusted partner for Kazakhstan within the European Union and the Mediterranean region. Notably, Cyprus has invested $4.8 billion in Kazakhstan’s economy since 2005.

The officials also celebrated the mutual opening of embassies in their respective capitals, signaling a significant milestone in strengthening their partnership. Discussions between the two parties encompassed potential cooperation in trade, transport, digitalization, tourism, as well as global and regional security matters.

Additionally, Nurtleu is scheduled to hold meetings with Cypriot Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos and engage with local business communities during his visit. The visit is expected to pave the way for deeper collaboration between Kazakhstan and Cyprus across various sectors, fostering greater mutual benefit and prosperity for both nations.
