Kazakhstan and Vietnam Strengthen Relations with Strategic Partnership Agreement

Kazakhstan and Vietnam Forge Strategic Partnership

Kazakhstan and Vietnam have officially elevated their bilateral relationship to a strategic partnership, marking a significant milestone in their cooperative efforts across various sectors. This new status was formalized during a state visit by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, To Lam, and President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

The joint statement outlining the strategic partnership signifies both nations’ mutual commitment to enhancing collaboration in key areas, including diplomacy, economics, and cultural exchange. This initiative reflects a broader goal of strengthening ties between the two countries, encouraging further dialogue and joint efforts.

As part of this partnership, several memoranda of cooperation were signed, addressing critical areas such as technology, innovation, digital transformation, culture, and sports. Notable among these agreements are cultural and sports cooperation programs scheduled for 2025–2027, and a twinning initiative designed to connect Kazakhstan’s Kyzylorda region with Vietnam’s Hung Yen province, promoting local-level interactions and goodwill.

In a further demonstration of their commitment, the Ministries of Justice of both nations signed a cooperation program that will extend through 2027, aiming to strengthen institutional relationships between their legal frameworks.

Economically, the strategic alliance has already begun to yield tangible benefits. A significant transaction was finalized involving the sale of shares in Qazaq Air from Kazakhstan’s sovereign wealth fund, Samruk-Kazyna, to Vietnam’s Sovico Group. Additionally, in the energy sector, KazMunayGas and Petrovietnam Exploration Production agreed to collaborate on geological exploration projects, paving the way for potential joint ventures in resource development.

This strategic partnership represents a promising new chapter in Kazakhstan-Vietnam relations, with both countries looking forward to leveraging their strengths in various sectors to foster mutual growth and development.
