Kazakhstan President and Turkmen Foreign Minister Strengthen Regional Cooperation

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Turkmen Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov recently met in Astana to discuss cooperation in various sectors. The meeting, held on Feb. 4, focused on energy, transit and transport, as well as cultural and humanitarian spheres.

During the talks, President Tokayev extended congratulations to Turkmenistan on the beginning of the International Year of Peace and Trust, which was initiated by Ashgabat and coincided with the 30th anniversary of the country’s neutrality. He emphasized Kazakhstan’s support for Turkmenistan’s peacekeeping initiatives and expressed readiness to continue providing assistance for their effective implementation.

In response, Minister Meredov conveyed warm greetings from Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and other Turkmen leaders to President Tokayev. Meredov, who was in Astana for an official visit on Feb. 3, also held discussions with Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Murat Nurtleu.

The meeting between President Tokayev and Minister Meredov highlights the ongoing cooperation and friendly relations between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan in various fields. Both sides remain committed to strengthening ties and promoting mutual interests for the benefit of their nations.
